Data scientist

Are you a data expert with knowledge of and experience with different programming languages and do you enjoy fine-tuning and further developing high-tech machines? Do you have affinity with a fast-growing high-tech environment, animal welfare and software? In that case, the position of data scientist at In Ovo is interesting to you.

What will you do?

As a data scientist you are responsible for all software related work regarding our machines. You contribute to the technical development and optimal functioning of high-tech equipment. You do this by improving and setting up the data processing and data workflows and managing developments and associated implementations.

Your statistical analyses directly influence the accuracy and speed of our high-tech machines. Working with biomarkers requires that you have experience in a laboratory environment.

To support our rapid growth, you are closely involved with the expansion of our machinery. You are in close contact with our development partners and are involved in setting up and managing the data architecture, the Graphical User Interface (GUI) requirements, the production data and the implementation of our 'online pay per test' model.

You collaborate closely with your engineering colleagues to optimize the machines. You identify and communicate on all possible statistical and software related matters that can promote a smooth production process. You can communicate clearly with your In Ovo colleagues and stakeholders in the various projects.

Who are we?

In Ovo is a spin-off from Leiden University. Our expanding multidisciplinary team uses complex technology to make a positive impact on the lives of chickens and farmers. We are known for our high-throughput machine for sexing fertilized chicken eggs. This high-tech system makes the culling of millions of male chicks unnecessary, saves resources and creates a more ethically acceptable egg production channel. This way, we will make a significant, positive impact on animal welfare and sustainability in the global poultry sector over the coming years. We will grow considerably as a company, continue to improve our machines and will put many machines in the market, in order to end the culling of chicks completely.

Who are we looking for?

To support our growth, we are looking for a data scientist. Someone who is able to optimize and further develop our high-tech equipment. You are good at analysing data and drawing the right conclusions. Through your knowledge and experience in the field of statistics, software and automation, you make an essential contribution to the production, service and installation of our high-throughput sex determination machines.

What will you bring?

  • A completed relevant HBO/WO programme, preferably in bioinformatics
  • At least four years of work experience with software development
  • Experience and knowledge of large datasets and statistics
  • A practical approach to software and programming
  • Organisational skills
  • Fluent in English (spoken and in writing)

What do we offer?

  • A one-year contract with the intention of renewal
  • A lot of personal responsibility and the possibility of creative input
  • The opportunity to contribute to the development of an exciting innovation with a global impact on the welfare of billions of animals
  • Working with smart colleagues in a diverse team
  • High-tech technology with which you can make impact
